My Story
I'm most commonly asked a simple question.... "Why are you walking?"
And my answer remains as simple... "because it was the most compelling idea I had."
I walk in the spirit of adventure and curiosity, the almost-always clumsy self discovery, and the hope that some piece of this walk can give to those who don't have the freedom I currently have- the freedom of choice.
Traveling the world at the slowest speed possible means I can understand the tortoise while sometimes envying the rabbit (particularly in the midst of a blizzard). I am not interested in breaking any record or following a straight line.
I've learned to stop investigating maps and go where my heart takes me while making my way West-ish back to my starting point in Bend, Oregon.
I will stop in places (or sidetrack myself) where a helping hand is needed because I believe we're all in this experience together. My greatest support often times comes from the kindness of a stranger.
This journey is about how I walk, and where the walk takes me.
I am in it for the love of adventure and exploration, both of physical landscapes and of the heart.
I am in it for the challenges I will face that will strengthen my character, all the beauty and beasts life births.
It is an experiment of owning only what can fit in one bag and discovering the joy of living on less and trying to give more.
I walk as a free woman who could choose crazy-expedition over secure-job in a world where many women still can't choose their husband or receive an education. I walk with them in my thoughts.
That's why I partnered with Her Future Coalition to help build a shelter for young girls to go and get educated during the day to prevent them from being sex trafficked.
I walk into a web of the unknown and slowly watch the world around me shape itself into being.
And when it all just seems too difficult to carry on.... I find there's always a reserve of energy to dance.
